Breakfast Ideas for Lap Band Dieters
My entire life, from a grade school kid, teenager, then college student, whenever, I've always made time for eating breakfast. Usually, I only ate good quality meals. I can count on two hands the amount of occasions donuts have been a breakfast item for me.
Now, being a bariatric medical patient reducing weight gradually, my breakfasts are certainly not as big as they used to be, and they're just a bit different, but I normally still do have a good bariatric breakfast.
Omelette.
Half the time, I use an egg substitute / carton egg white product to reduce the excess fat. But, I normally put some fat right back in there by way of some sharp cheddar cheese. Sprinkle some dill weed, and serve it with some hummus to the side or sugar free ketchup.
Scrambled eggs.
Shredded sharp cheddar cheese sprinkled on top of scrambled eggs (two eggs or 1/3 cup egg substitute product). Again, hand made hummus or reduced sugar ketchup on the side for a added flavor. Yet another terrific addition to eggs is a blend of a tbs of sour cream (reduced fat) and chipotle pepper sauce, on the side, like ketchup.
Chicken or Turkey Sausage.
Look for chicken sausage in the meat section, they're chilled and come in packages of four. Some sausages may well be high in salt, so read the actual labeling. A large-ish link of chicken sausage is incredibly tasty, fulfilling, reduced in fats. Try accompanying this high protein menu item with a couple Ak Mak cracker portions.
Bob's Red Mill Oat Bran hot cereal.
Surprise! Oat Bran has 7g protein! Hopefully most people have access to this wonderful brand name. Bob's Red Mill grains and cereal products tend to be spotted in the hot breakfast cereal department in clear packaging, but there are times they will possibly be discovered on the baking area shelves of one's food market. Prime quality nutrition and delicious cereal to start your day, and it's quick and easy. 1/3 cup cereal mixed with 2/3 cup water. Stir, and then microwave for one minute. Include some honey or sugar free syrup.
Syntrax Nectar Cappuchino flavor is an outstanding addition for increased healthy proteins, or just have a single hard boiled egg on the side.
For those who don't have Bob's Red Mill Oat Bran cereal, the next best selection can be a box of Quaker Oats Hot Oat Bran cereal. The flavors aren't as distinct as Bob's, and it doesn't have as great a texture, but it does provide the same excellent nutrition with 7g of healthy proteins per serving.
Hard boiled egg and string cheese.
A terrific breakfast to take with you should you be inside a rush.
Yogurt?
One thing that's omitted from this list is Greek yogurt. Quite simply it has an excessive amount of sugar. Check the content label should you choose greek yogurt. Quite a few brands have over 20g of sugars. Might also have ice cream for breakfast, no?
Kroger offers a good 'Carb Master' low sugar yogurt that I believe is really a much better alternate choice.
As bariatric medical patients, we simply cannot have sweet bready options like the common Local cafe coffee store items, and even though an occasional Egg McMuffin can be fine, I'd urge against a McGriddle or (my personal classic favorite) egg, sausage, and cheese biscuit! There are many great, high-protein products which make splendid bariatric morning meal dishes.
